Caring For Your Cashmere
Since cashmere is one of the finest fibres the world will ever know, you’ll need to show it a little TLC. That extra care and attention goes a long way though! When done right, your cashmere pieces will last longer and become even softer than they already are.
Washing
Many of our cashmere products can be hand washed while some need to be dry cleaned in order to best preserve the colour. We recommend you refer to the washing instructions on your garment’s care tag. But when it comes to hand washing, we made it easy for you:
- Hand wash inside out with lukewarm water (not exceeding 30°C) using detergents made for wools and silks. Do not rub, wring or stretch your garment and do not use fabric softener.
- Rinse your garment in lukewarm water and gently squeeze out any remaining water.
- Short spin dry no longer than 2 minutes at a maximum of 1,000 rpm. Do not tumble dry.
- Reshape your garment while damp.
- Dry flat away from direct sun or heat.
- Use a cool steam iron to remove any creases.
Piling
If you notice small balls forming on your cashmere garment, no need to panic. You can easily remove them by hand or with a de-pilling knitwear comb. Pills form due to your garment rubbing during wear but once you remove them, your cashmere will return to its former glory.
Moths
You’re not the only one who loves high quality cashmere. Moths like it too. To keep them from ruining your beloved pieces, here’s a few rules you should follow:
● Don’t put your garments away dirty. Wash your cashmere following our hand wash instructions or have them dry cleaned. Moths will be repelled by the smell.
● Shake out your garments every month (21 days) or air them out in strong sunlight. If any moths are present, they will fall from the clothing since they don’t like the light.
● You can also freeze moths out. Wrap your cashmere piece in acid-free tissue paper and place it in a plastic bag. Freeze it overnight. Defrost slowly to kill any larvae.
● Cedar balls also work wonders at keeping moths away since they detest the smell. Replace your cedar balls regularly to ensure their smell remains potent.
● When storing your cashmere pieces for the summer, put them in an airtight zip storage bag until it’s time to show them off again next season.
